Artist Statement Accompanying the Exhibition

My art practice centers on a search for intimacy, spiritual connection and adventure through travel to new and revisited places. Landscape, travel, memory and intimate relationships are themes central to my work. I document journeys through local and international landscapes; making works representative of my physical surrounds and/or psychological experience.

This latest body of work looks at everyday people and implies our culture’s longing for celebrity. The photographs from the streets of New York City and Los Angeles appear familiar; they tap into a genre from tabloid magazines showing movie and television stars going about their day-to-day business. Only these people are not famous, they are ordinary folks going about their lives like anywhere else in the West: shopping, talking on mobile phones, crossing the road, and travelling on the subway.
