Life + Garden Lessons with My Gorgeous Niece

This week I’ve been busy filming the planting module for The Abundant Veggie Patch System and getting ready for my upcoming solo exhibition at Caloundra Regional Gallery next month (if you’d like to come to the opening on December 8th – I’d love to see you there!)

I also made a funny little video for you about life (+ gardening!) lessons with my gorgeous little niece. We talked about how it’s important not to get caught up worrying about getting things right, all the time.

I know this is not a ‘how to’ or a step by step instruction video this week, but I firmly believe the mindset about ‘having a go’ in the garden is just as, if not more, important than knowing all the techniques.

Check it out here.

But what’s really important here is YOU. Are you letting the idea that you have to be get things right all the time hold you back in your garden?

What have you discovered that works well, by trial and error? Have you found a plant you never thought you could grow that grows with ease? Or a routine that keeps your plot manageable?
In the comments, please tell me your specific experience!

As always, thanks for reading and watching, and remember to share this info with your friends by clicking ‘Like’ and click here to tweet the tweetable from this video :)

PS. This week I was THRILLED to be featured on The Wellness Warrior, answering questions with Jess Ainscough! Check it out here.

I was getting a bit frustrated with not having enough sunny area to plant more veg. so I had a brainwave—cut down a daggy bush lemon tree, a big mugwart, a tall skinny bottle brush, and severely trimmed a not so healthy avocado tree, now the sun is shining on an extra area of 4x2 metres. after 3 tip runs– I now have much more garden potential

      Hi Bernie,

That sounds like a great brain-wave! Funny how sometimes the solution is so obvious, and once we know what we want to do, the results can happen very quickly. Sounds like a great development for your sunshineaholic area. :)

    Hi Nicola,

I’m new to Sprout having subscribed after seeing you on the Wellness Warrior. I love your story about your niece and when it comes to gardening I’m often proved wrong but I love to keep trying and this year is probably looking at being my most successful. There is nothing better than eating straight from the garden.

      Hi Jen!

Thanks so much for subscribing from the Wellness Warrior. I’m truly honoured to be sharing my experience with Jess’ fantastic community.

My grandpa (a great + keen gardener) always said to me ‘Just keep trying, dear’ and I think it’s wonderful advice! And year after year, you’re right, I think we all get better at it — just like with anything in life, really.

Great to have you here and thanks for sharing!
      xx

Lovely story and thanks for sharing Nicola — a drop of gold. I’m well impressed that you managed to deliver that video whilst driving! That is one of the best multi-tasking feats I’ve seen!
